Income Protection by The Exeter

“The one protection policy every working adult in the UK should consider is the very one most of us don't have - income protection.” - Which?
Income Protection

Illness or injury can strike at any time and can lead to serious financial trouble.

By choosing income protection, you are taking away the worry of how to support your finances and lifestyle if you were left unable to work through ill health or injury.

We simplify, where other insurers complicate. We know you need to understand and believe in your policy.

When you call The Exeter, you talk to a real person at our UK office - first time, every time.

We've paid an average of 95% of all income protection claims over the last 10 years - a service you can trust.

We’re consistently recognised in the industry for our product and service excellence, winning numerous awards.

Overview

At The Exeter, we're proud of the income protection plans we offer and the vital, life changing cover they have provided our members over the years.

With over 100 years’ experience, we know how important it is to get not only our products right, but our service right too.

We offer two income protection plans to suit different types of occupation, both with a range of options to help you find the right product at the right price.

Pure Protection Plus offers cover for almost all occupations - we never change the premium you pay based on what you do for a living.

Income One Plus offers cover for those in low risk, mainly office based occupations, meaning the price you pay reflects the nature of the work you do.

Ultimately, we judge the success of our income protection on one thing – did it deliver when our members needed it, with paid claims? We’re proud of our record on paying claims, and we were the first insurer to go public and publish our claims data in 2005; we have done so every year since.

Pure Protection Plus

Pure Protection

Pure Protection Plus is the benchmark income protection plan if you work in manual, physical occupations and skilled trades.

For other insurers, this sector is often an afterthought, but at The Exeter we know just how important it is to provide quality cover for people who are dependent on their health and fitness to be able to work and earn an income.

Key Benefits

  • Cover from day 1, along with a range of waiting periods
Our day 1 cover option means a claim could be paid after you have been off work for just 3 consecutive days - we will then backdate the claim to the first day you were absent from work due to illness or injury.
  • An own occupation definition for all, forever
No matter what you do for a living, if you are covered by Pure Protection Plus, when we assess a claim, we will only look at the impact an illness or injury is having on your ability to do your own job.
  • Affordable age-costed premiums
With Pure Protection Plus your premiums rise with age - a structure which helps many people with tight budgets buy protection they couldn’t otherwise afford. You can pay a little extra each month to guarantee those price rises, so you’ll always know what your future premiums will look like.
  • No standard policy exclusions
We think income protection should be designed to be used, so there are no standard exclusions that might surprise you when you make a claim.
  • A choice of claim periods
If long term cover doesn’t suit your budget, you can select a limited claim period of 2 or 5 years for each individual claim, providing valuable cover at a lower price.
  • Options to fix your benefit
Our benefit fix options give you greater reassurance and a simpler claims process – it's perfect for people with a fluctuating income.
  • Cover that changes as your life does
Pure Protection Plus is flexible, giving you a range of guaranteed options to increase or take a break from your cover – because life changes, and so should your income protection.

Income One Plus

Income One

Income One Plus provides bespoke cover if you work in a professional, low risk or administrative occupation.

  • Choice of level guaranteed or age-costed guaranteed premiums
Some people like certainty, others want premiums to be as low as possible to begin with. With Income One Plus, you can choose a premium structure that’s right for you – level premiums start higher and stay the same, whereas age-costed premiums are cheaper to begin, but increase with age.
  • No standard policy exclusions
We think income protection should be designed to be used, so there are no standard exclusions that might surprise you when you make a claim.
