Make the most of your Income Protection policy by understanding all that it offers. In this edition of Your Member Roundup, we’ll tell you about our back to work support.

What is back to work support?

If you find yourself eager to return to work after claiming on your income protection policy, we’re here to support you as much as we can.

We offer back to work support for when you’re not able to return to the same level of work as before. Whether you ease yourself back in with fewer hours or try a different occupation with a lower salary, we’ll pay you a benefit that reflects your reduction in income.

Your dedicated claims assessor will explain what your benefit is and how its calculated.

Types of benefits

We offer 2 types of benefits:

Rehabilitation benefit

You’ll receive a rehabilitation benefit if you return to the same job you had before becoming unwell but only on a part-time basis due to your illness or injury. We’ll pay this benefit for a maximum of 24 months.

The rehabilitation benefit will stop at the earliest of the following events:

  • You reach a maximum payment of 24 months
  • Your claim reaches the limited claim period of two or five years, if selected
  • Your income from part time work is equal to or more than your income before falling ill or injured
  • You are medically able to return to your previous occupation on a full-time basis or for a full working week
  • You do not follow medical advice
  • Your selected finishing date

Proportionate benefit

You’ll receive a proportionate benefit if you’re no longer able to work in the same job due to your illness or injury and therefore return to work in a different job with a lower income.

The proportionate benefits would stop at the earliest of the below events:

  • Your claim reaches the limited claim period of two or five years, if selected
  • Your income from your new occupation is equal to or more than your income before falling ill or injured
  • You are medically able to return to the occupation you had before falling ill or injured
  • You do not follow medical advice
  • Your selected finishing date

So, if you find yourself ready to start your journey back to work after claiming on your income protection policy, make sure to take advantage of our support.
