What you need to know

Terminal illness and your life insurance

We know that a terminal illness diagnosis is life-changing and can be incredibly overwhelming. In 2024, more than a quarter of our life insurance claims were for terminal illness. Your life insurance policy is designed to provide you and your loved ones with comfort and peace of mind when you need it most.

What is a terminal illness?

A terminal illness is an illness which has no known cure or has progressed to the point where it can’t be cured and is expected to lead to death within 12 months.

How can your policy help?

If you were to be diagnosed with a terminal illness, you and your family could receive the full benefit from your policy before the end of your life. This means you can focus on what matters most to you - whether that’s spending time with family, managing life's expenses or helping loved ones plan for the future. We’d also speak with your consultant to confirm your diagnosis and any potential treatment routes for during this time.

We always recommend speaking to your financial adviser during this time for additional support and guidance.
