UK health and life insurer, The Exeter, has today announced that its member benefits app, HealthWise, is experiencing a record increase in usage. Increased member engagement with the platform has seen more of The Exeter’s members access the support on offer through Square Health, than ever before.
In 2024, 10,356 specialist appointments were booked through HealthWise, an increase of 175% from 2023. The data also shows downloads of the app more than doubled year-on-year, to 14,763 in 2024. These figures highlight the continued importance of added-value services as an essential component of health and life insurance propositions.
Demand surges for remote GP appointments
In 2024, the number of remote GP appointments booked through the HealthWise app stood at 7,570, accounting for 74% of all service usage. This is up from 2023, when they made up 63% of usage.
While remote GP appointments were the most used service last year, mental health services were accessed by one in ten HealthWise users, as were physiotherapy services. These services accounted for 11% and 10% of usage, respectively. The app also saw increased year on year usage across all other services including nutrition and lifestyle consultations, second medical opinions and dietitian consultations.
56–65-year-olds lead the way for health check assessments
In 2024, members aged 31-40 were the most engaged with overall HealthWise services, accounting for 23% of users, closely followed by 41-50-year-olds who made up 21% of users.
However, 56-65-years-old were the highest users of health check assessments. Introduced in late 2023, first year usage saw more than 2,700 assessments being carried out by The Exeter’s members. Usage was split equally between men and women, with 770 members making a follow up appointment with a remote GP to discuss their results.
Isobel Langton, CEO, The Exeter, commented:
"It's encouraging to see more members taking advantage of the benefits offered through HealthWise, which is an important part of their insurance policy. While remote GP appointments remain popular, it's also encouraging to see an increase in the use of all available services in 2024.
Looking ahead, we will continue to encourage our members to access the services available them and are working closely with Square Health to explore ways to further enhance the HealthWise experience for our members."
Steve Casey, Marketing Director at Square Health, commented:
“We are delighted to support The Exeter’s members and their families in the provision of the market leading HealthWise services. The continued demand across all the services, together with the Exeter’s approach to marketing, means we are seeing continued use whilst still maintaining impressive customer feedback scores”
